Honestly, a great question!

What is branding… is it a logo? Is it a label? Honestly, I believe it’s the overall look, feel, and soul of your business. When you are starting or re-branding a business you are deciding a lot of things. Or at least you should be. First, know your mission. Are you selling water balloons? Are you coaching on nutrition? Are you . . . yeah, see how important that mission statement is? That is your first hurdle.

“A brand is a name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller’s good or service as distinct from those of other sellers”

-American Marketing Association

There are a lot of feelings mixed up in a brand. For instance, Target makes you feel a certain way, and Nordstrom has a different feeling. Is it their logo? Nope. Is it their selection, service, mission, price point, community standing? Yes, all that and more. The brand stands for something. Now turn around and look at your brand/service/product. Does it clearly feel (there is that word again) like it has a clear direction, look, style and meaning? That is what branding is. It’s not just one thing, it is a compilation of things. It is your product, the logo, the colors, the style the blogs you write, the posts you do the stories you film. ALL> THE> THINGS> that is what branding is.

Honestly, that’s why it is so hard to define.
